Parents and guardians,
We want you to know that Cohen Children’s Medical Center is committed to keeping our patients safe! We work as a team—with you as our partner.
We want to share some ways you may see our team members practicing—all in an effort to improve communication. Some of these include:
- Commitment to Safety—Team members are trained to keep a safe environment for all patients. If something does not look right, they fix it right away and tell others. We may stop what is happening if anyone on the team feels uncomfortable. That includes you!
- Situation Monitoring—We are constantly monitoring what is going on with your child and what is going on in the environment so we can make sure to find and fix problems before they affect patient care.
- The Name Game—You may see our team members introducing themselves to one another! While many of us work together every day, we want to ensure any member that is in our care area is introduced and able to approach anyone. We want you to play the name game too! If someone hasn’t introduced themselves or their role, please ask them to do so.
- Huddles—We know that gathering together to share information is vital to ensuring we all know what the plan is for the shift. You will see the larger group of team members “huddling” together at various times of the day and night to share facts about patient care.
- Communication—Clear communication among all team members is the most important thing we can do to keep your child safe. We will sometimes repeat information to make sure everyone on the team knows what is going on. We may even ask you to repeat information and participate in rounding so we know we’ve got it right.
- Questioning Attitude—We hope you notice that our team members are comfortable asking one another questions to make sure they understand important details and promote safe delivery of care. We want you to feel free to ask questions too! Ask any team member and at any time.
- Safety Coaches—Safety coaches are experts who help coach their peers to practice these safety behaviors. You may see them help others to keep patients and employees safe. We strive to help people every day be the best they can.
